Course Overview
What You'll Learn
Taught by Encore's own clinical educators, this course covers the full spectrum of wound care knowledge nurses need to assess, treat, and document with confidence in a hands-on setting backed by real-world case experience.
Wound Bed Composition
Skin anatomy, tissue identification (epithelial, granulation, slough, eschar), and skin assessment across all skin tones.
Wound Assessment
Mandatory documentation values (location, etiology, measurements) plus drainage types, periwound assessment, and infection indicators.
Common Wound Types
Distinguishing venous, arterial, and diabetic ulcers from moisture-associated skin damage (MASD) and selecting appropriate care plans.
Skin Tear Prevention & Treatment
ISTAP classification of all three skin tear types, topical treatment selection, prevention strategies, and proper documentation.
Pressure Injury Staging
NPIAP staging criteria from Stage 1 through Stage 4, Unstageable, Deep Tissue Pressure Injury, and Mucosal Membrane PI, with key documentation rules.
Pressure Injury Prevention & Planning
Risk factor assessment, Pyramid of Needs, preventative protocols, support surface selection (mattress, cushion, heel offloading).
Nutrition & Wound Healing
The role of calories, protein, fluids, vitamins, and minerals in wound closure, and when to initiate a dietician referral.
Infection Control Practices
Transmission-based precautions, Enhanced Barrier Precautions, proper hand hygiene, clean dressing change technique, and MolecuLight bioburden visualization.
Dressing & Treatment Selection
Moisture balance principles, primary and secondary dressing categories, treatment order construction, and compression therapy (Unna boot, multi-layer wrapping, ABI interpretation).
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
NPWT mechanisms of action, indications (CATS/PUGS), contraindications, device types (traditional, disposable, iNPWT), and step-by-step application technique.

EWCA brings together 10 modules of expert-led wound care instruction into a single day. You'll leave with an accredited CE certificate, a comprehensive reference guide, and the confidence to apply what you've learned from day one.
Day-of Schedule
8-Hour Course Agenda
The day runs from 8am to 5pm with two short breaks and a complimentary lunch. Ten modules are delivered in sequence, each one building on the last, so you leave with a complete, connected picture of wound care practice.

Meagan Jackson
Vice President of Clinical Education
Meagan Jackson is Encore Wound Care's Vice President of Clinical Education, sharing her passion for evidence-based wound care practice with colleagues and client facilities alike. Her interest in wound care was sparked early in her career when caring for a family member with secondary lymphedema, an experience that ignited a lifelong commitment to wound care that enhances the life of others.
After nursing school, Meagan completed a wound care externship and is now certified in wound care and a proud member of multiple professional organizations.

Rachel Disantis is a Wound Care Certified LPN and Clinical Nurse Specialist at Encore Wound Care, bringing specialized expertise in negative pressure wound therapy, hyperbaric medicine, and nursing education. She holds certifications from the National Alliance of Wound Care & Ostomy (WCC) and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (HBOT).
With a background spanning clinical nurse education, quality auditing, and hands-on wound care, Rachel is passionate about providing unmatched clinical education and expertise, supporting both patients and the providers who care for them.
